Things to Do in Ardmore, OK: A Weekend Guide

Two days in Ardmore — where to sleep on the lake, how to get out on the water, and what to do downtown when the afternoon turns hot.

By The TownSpark Ardmore GuidePublished August 18, 2026

A weekend in Ardmore splits naturally in two: Lake Murray on the south side of town, and a walkable downtown a few minutes north. Most visitors do some of each.

These seven stops are ordered that way — where to sleep and get on the water first, then the indoor stops for an afternoon that turns hot or wet. Every note below comes from what Ardmore's own visitors wrote about the place.

  1. 01

    Lake Murray Floating Cabins, Inc

Cabins that actually float on Lake Murray. One family describes their kids fishing off the dock all week — perch, bluegill, catfish — and another guest says the fishing was the best part of the stay. One reviewer notes it's boat-to-cabin friendly; a second mentions a covered spot for the boat. A regular has rented here for years running, while a four-star review flags the short stay window: a 4 PM check-in against a 10 AM check-out.

  2. 02

    Murray Harbor Marina

Where to get out on the water for the day. Reviewers name the dock crew by first name — for shuttling them down to the slips, filling the gas tank, and, in one case, helping a visitor's mother learn to drive the boat. Three separate visitors single out how clean it is kept, one of them down to the docks and restrooms.

Lake Murray State Park and Lodge

The easy weekend base if you'd rather have a front desk — ask for a room with a balcony over the lake. Two guests call the rooms comfortable; one had a maintenance question answered at her door within six minutes, and another mentions the pool and the miniature golf course on the property. Worth knowing before you book: the cabins draw noticeably more mixed reviews than the lodge rooms do.

    Greater Southwest Historical Museum

Ardmore and Carter County history in a small, densely packed museum, and the obvious move when the afternoon turns hot. Three separate visitors call the staff friendly; one traveler passing through between Dallas and Oklahoma City notes it's free. Budget an hour, or two if you read every case — one visitor spent two hours and still didn't see it all. Open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 5.

Charles B Goddard Center for Visual & Performing Arts

A gallery and a theater in one downtown building. One reviewer describes traveling exhibits, scheduled art classes, and events through the year; another says the gallery brings in local talent alongside artists from out of state and out of country. Check the calendar before you drive over — Saturday hours run only 10 to 2, and it's closed Sunday and Monday.

  6. 06

    Marvin's Place Art Gallery

A Main Street art gallery that doubles as an acoustic listening room. One reviewer describes live music every Friday, which is also the only night it stays open past 7. The artwork on the walls is for sale, and one visitor caught a small theater production in the room.

    Hardy Murphy Coliseum

The arena where Ardmore's big events land — reviewers write about a rodeo with kids riding sheep, bull riding, a circus, and the Carter County Fair, in a building that's been standing since 1937. There's nothing to see here unless something is on the calendar, so check first.
